A day trip to Fort William and Loch Ness

The trip started as early as 5am in the morning. We were from Edinburgh, currie to be exact. We took out the route via Forth Bridge, Scotland's most famous bridge in history.

Stopped by at Queensferry, to capture the bridge's view and head straight north. We chose the route nearest to Fort William via M90 to A9 heading for A889. From there, we head south to A86. At the end of A86, there's a T-junction. We went up north first heading for Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle by taking route A82. The journey from Currie, Edinburgh to Urquhart took about 31/2 hour. Along the route, there's a lot of Scotland's attractions.

One of the most memorable place is the Fort Augustus near the Caledonian Canal. There's this interesting canal technology where the boats being transferred from Loch Ness to the canal via staggered canal sections. The canal will be filled by water to a level similar to the precedent sections to travel the boats to the next section. Water will be released by the water gate slowly and the owner of the boats needs to pull their boat using a rope from the bank of the canal to another section of the canal. There is also a swing bridges near the Loch Oich and Fort Augustus.

Other than that, there is this Monessie Falls which view is breathtaking. Its just as beautiful as those shown in the calender. And it is a national forest treasure of the Scotland. Just after the falls, there is a 'miniature castle' as how I would call it due to its small size but the building is beautiful. I believe its a guard house to a private mansion.

Additionally, there is a Commando Memorial near Stronoba just beside the roadside. A place not to be missed, plus it a free entry. 8-)

After we've done visiting the Urquhart Castle and the Loch Ness, we head south taking the same route as before for Fort Williams. The journey took about 1hour at 60mph. We stop by at an unexpected stop near the Wells of the Seven Heads. There you can stand near the Loch Oich's bank and experience another breath taking views and touch the water. Unlike at Loch Ness, the cliff are high and it's quite difficult for you to go near the water.

Wev reached Fort William and was welcomed by a road construction. We waited for about 20 minutes for the traffic to be clear. we stopped by at a castle named Inverloch castle. It has ruined down but is still preserved by the Scottish. The best part is it free entry. By the way, for those who travel by car, there's a nearby gas stations that sells cheap gas as compared to other area in Fort William. I know for sure that I could not say that the gas is cheap as the price has gone up recently.

Later, there is this place for those who likes skating known as Nevis Range Ski Centre. Due to the time constraints, we skipped the place and head for Fort William town. There is also the famous Ben Nevis Distillery Visitor Centre as well as the West Highland Museum near the Achintee. For those who likes to travel more, you can reach Oban, another tourist attractions in Scotland from Fort William. We didn't have enough time so back we went to Edinburgh.

His paper presentation at CIBW070 Heriot-Watt University

I took the opportunity to attend his conference at Heriott-Watt University, Edinburgh. The trip to Edinburgh is not my 1st time, as I have visited it last 4 years back.

The conference is held every 2 years, specialising the Facilities Management Area. Last 2 years, it was held at Norway, next session. in 2010, it will be held at Sao Polo, Brazil. I wish he'll send another paper so that I could take the opportunity to visit Brazil. :-D

His presentation falls on the 2nd day of the conference titled The Potential of Knowledge Management Processes For Facilitating PFI projects. I attended most of the presentation. Although it's quite different from my research area, it gives me an opportunity to refresh and strengthen my understandings on facilities management. Furthermore, it is not a sin to learn other people's area of knowledge. Additionally, I did my Master project on FM back in 2004 at UCL. Hence, it is not at all a new knowledge for me. I was even surpised to find some Malaysians whom has reffered to my paper I presented at Bung Hatta Conference, at Padang in 2006. Well, well, this conference certainly is worth attending.

I was delighted to see the faces of the people who writes the paper which I have referred back in 2004. The momentos will always be remembered. I have had the opportunity to took photos with the famous Prof Peter Barret. And also, there's Dr Edward Finch, Prof Michael Okoroh, Prof Michael Pitt, Igal Shohet, Dr Rita Newton and many more.

Here are some of the photos I managed to capture during the conference.

Our Trip to Paris

He promised a trip to breakaway from our research. And so to Paris we went, for 4 days. The trip, despite being my second, was very meaningful.

There isn't much change as compared to my last visit in 2004. The Disneyland Paris however, has built another ride known as Space Mountain 2. I did not try it out. The memory of the Space Mountain ride in 2004 was too terrifying.

The Disney Village has expanded. There are lots of new shop and a very big M restaurants. And to my Muslim friends, there even serve halal kebab.

Will update more information on where and how to get to tourists attraction and few tips on Paris travelling.

2 Birthday Parties in a day

An extraordinary day, two birthdays in a day. The 1st I attended was Munif Afifi's birthday. Son of Sarajul and Kak Siti, he celebrated his 2 years old in a momentous party. Many has turn up. The curry mee was superb. Thanks to Kak Siti and Sarajul for inviting us over.

Later in the day, we went to Edd's house to celebrate her birthday. Her housemates, Eija, Mahmud and Salami has prepared middle east food. The food was fantastic, especially when it was prepared by a man. How impressive.

Sheffield - Peak District

Went to Sheffield last Sunday. The trip wasn't planned at all. Simply drove my car and the next thing I know, I've reached Meadowhall's Retails Park.

Called up Ila and Aza to ask directions to interesting places nearby and we endeed up spending a night at their place. We had fun. But my camera's battery went flat that I couldn't capture those beautiful scenaries. Thanks to Ila and Aza, I maanged to spend and save my sweet momento there.

The 1st five were the only photos I managed to capture with my ixus.
